2023 Holiday Trend Predictions

While you and your shoppers might be steeped in planning and decorating for the current holiday season, product designers and trend forecasters are already looking ahead to the 2023 holiday season. Our team had the pleasure of talking with product development teams from several brands to identify the themes and trends that are revving up for 2023. Influenced by fashion and home trends, along with a dose of nostalgia, Holiday 2023 will add a festive punch of texture, color, and glam.

Nature continues to play a big role in home design as we look ahead to next year. A mainstay in our humble abodes, natural elements including plants, botanical prints, and colors are not going away anytime soon. Large scale greeneries will be an ongoing trend for Christmas and into 2024. LAFCO New York, Indaba, and RAZ Imports are all highlighting elements from this trend into their Holiday 2023 collections.

LAFCO Founder and CEO Jon Bresler says, “We see the demand for more muted colors. A favor towards bronze over gold, as well as softer greens and reds. The trend in fragrance runs along this same path. Expect more nostalgic gourmand fragrances, with more fruit notes, and toned-down balsam notes.” Even LAFCO’s Fall Collection will fall in line with this theme and extend their product offerings with a soft brown pallet with warm, creamy, and earth tone fragrances.

Ali Gillepsie, Vice President at Indaba, shared that their 2023 Holiday collection will be all about extending the beauty of our favorite home decor elements into a pleasing collection that is true to Indaba’s look and style. There is also a focus on creative mantle and tabletop styling with the introduction of beautiful foraged floral wreaths, trees, and garlands in every medium. Classic Christmas tree shapes are reinvented in natural materials like raw ceramic, wood, and glass.

Cameron Bowersox, Director of Product Development at RAZ Imports shared, "All is Calm is inspired by RAZ's best-selling items from past seasons--our customer loved the look of natural wood and pampas grass. Using these textures, we created a theme that is on-trend for both the home décor and holiday markets. Grounded in natural textures with touches of black and fresh greenery, this theme creates a welcoming and warm farmhouse feeling for every home."

Merriment to the Max

A recent home decor trend unearthed through Pinterest data is the rise of emotional escape rooms. As mental health and well-being continue to be major themes driving interior design choices, it makes sense that homeowners want to turn their homes into the ultimate retreat. Instead of adding value to our homes in the usual “nice-to-haves” such as a den or additional sitting room, consumers are getting creative by designing spaces that fulfill specific interests. Think music rooms, geo/crystal rooms, or even tiny home libraries. These rooms, much like the 2023 Holiday trend Merriment to the Max, tap into what brings us joy. Que “My Favorite Things” by Oscar Hammerstein.

“For decades, red and green have been synonymous with the festive season, but this year’s holiday palettes are more creative than ever,” says Sophie Flaxman of Better Homes & Gardens. “Tis the season to be jolly with a range of vibrant, whimsical, and nostalgic shades guaranteed to brighten your home.”

Bright colors can have a powerful positive effect on our psyche. This playful and mood-boosting holiday aesthetic reminds us to celebrate in ways that bring us happiness. Merriment to the Max is filled with traditional icons in re-imagined styles. "Peppermints, candy canes, and gingerbread are among the most classic holiday icons, and they're some of our favorites at RAZ. This season, we added soft pink and ivory to the traditional red and white color pallet to give it a more formal, feminine feel. Cookies and cocktails are the icons of this sugary sweet theme--perfect for entertaining! We have a variety of new and RAZ-Exclusive designs to make each person’s candy-coated theme uniquely theirs" says Bowersox.

Classic Carols

The holidays are always a special time of the year, and one piece of the magic of the season is the music. There are so many good traditional Christmas songs, and you only get one season to play them on repeat. Just like the songs will always be timeless and popular, so is the tradition of red and green decor. With that in mind, Classic Carols is our most traditional 2023 Holiday trend.

Classic Carols shines in fresh and bold colors. Vibrant red and rich green combine with white and silver accents to create a young and cheerful theme. We also will see a modern twist on traditional plaids, and of course, influences of holiday music. Corkcicle will lean into this trend for several Holiday 2023 launches, with their unique spin on traditional plaids that are perfect for cozy nights by the fire and bold colors we typically envision during the holiday season.

Christmas Cheer

While minimalism and simple living has been the main narrative for many years, maximalist concepts are returning, bringing a wave of luxury features with it. This home décor trend, paired with the ever-popular home cocktailing trend, lay the foundation for Christmas Cheer.

This trend is luxe, glamourous, and screams opulence - all with a touch of vintage style. Add decadence to decor with a beautiful jewel palette of midnight blues, rich emerald greens, deep purples, and ruby reds. LAFCO has several holiday 2023 launches that will feature a new glass concept, which removed the luster from previous seasons, giving the glass more of a jewel tone.

This festive season will see the return of the Roaring Twenties and Gatsby inspired holiday parties. We will also see a resurgence of the use of tinsel used in this trend. Tinsel was originally made of real silver, so using it in your Christmas decor was a sign of prosperity. The trend came back around in the ‘50s and ‘60s, but this time the sparkly material was made of much more affordable PVC plastic, which made the trend more accessible. After a brief resurgence in the '80s, the tinsel trend is back again in full force.

A special thank you to the teams at RAZ Imports, LAFCO New York, Corkcicle, and Indaba for sharing insights on what you can look forward to for Holiday 2023. As you gather inspiration for your Holiday 2023 assortments, you may decide to focus on a specific trend or specific color scheme. While you cannot go wrong with red and green, we also love jewel tones, shades of pinks, and mixing metallics. The options are truly endless!
